Search Engines

  • General

    • Izquick - excellent multi-search engine that lets you use many other engines easily.

    • Google: Has serious privacy issues--keeps your searches and clicks in their own database, possibly forever. You do have the option of limiting your view of their records on you, but not of deleting your search records from their view of their database. Also, their desktop search toolbar seems like serious spyware as of this writing. Tip: to avoid privacy problems, do not use their desktop search toolbar, and use an anonymizer service such as Anonymizer or third party multi-search engine such as Izquick for searching the Web instead of using Google directly.
    • Open Directory - "The Open Directory Project is the largest, most comprehensive human-edited directory of the Web. It is constructed and maintained by a vast, global community of volunteer editors." Definitely recommended.
